About The Blue Scoop

Outside of the blue scoop ice cream shop in the evening

We opened in May of 2010. With roots in Maryland, I grew up vacationing at the Delaware Beaches. When it came time to vacation with my boys the choice was obvious and they have developed the same affection that I have for Delmarva.  The opportunity to open a business here was a dream come true.  It has meant that I can live, work and give back to a community that I love and has given me so many wonderful memories. -Barbara Schuckman, Owner

The name Blue Scoop comes from things you find at the Delaware Beaches: blue hens, blue crabs and since we are near the beach blue sky and blue surf.

All our ice cream comes from 2 Delaware Dairy Farms

We are an allergy friendly and eco-friendly store.

We are an allergy friendly store.  Staff are trained to use new/clean scoops and/or fresh boxes to avoid cross-contamination.  We also offer non dairy sorbet and no sugar added vanilla ice cream and sugar free syrups.

Eco friendly-all of our serveware is compostable, we use wooden spoons and the Scoop was built with eco friendly and some recycled materials.

 FAQs

  • All our ice cream is handmade, in small batches locally by 2 Delaware Dairy farms, Woodside Farm Creamery, in Hockessin, DE and Hopkins Farm Creamery in Lewes, DE. Woodside is one of the few remaining century farms in Delaware, having been in the Mitchell family for over 200 years. Hopkins Farm Creamery, part of Green Acres Farm, has been owned and operated by four generations of the Hopkins family since 1942 and is the largest dairy farm in the state. Woodside’s Jersey girls and Hopkins’ Henlopen Holsteins produce high quality, rich milk that makes our ice cream so creamy. Enjoy a real farm to table taste of Delaware!

Giving Back To Our Community

Part of the Blue Scoop's mission is to give back to our local community and the larger world as well. We do this in a few ways:

1) The Annual Ultimate Banana Split Showdown

Every year we have a Banana Split Showdown where the staff splits themselves (no pun intended) into teams and each team designs their own signature split. The team whose split is ordered the most is crowned the new champion!

We not only love this event because it’s such a fun time, but because each year the proceeds go to a good cause. Being community oriented, supporting local, and giving back are at the core of who we are. The first year the proceeds went to Donate Life MD, the second year the proceeds went to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the third year the proceeds went to Donate Life Maryland.

2) Donations

We are always happy to donate gift cards or ice cream or monetarily to local schools, churches and community groups to help with their fundraising efforts.

3) Miss Eleanor and Little El

Our two mobile units are available to participate in offsite fundraising events where we donate a percentage of our proceeds back to an organization.  We have been a part of Dine and Donate events to support Indian River High School, The River Soccer October Tournament and the Rehoboth Beach National Kidney Foundation Kidney Walk to name a few.
